Who Are We?

We are a community of friendly people, seeking to faithfully live out the mission that God has called us to. We are actively involved in the area surrounding the church in outreach, service, and prayer, but our congregation includes people from all across the city who are seeking to follow Jesus and join him in what he is doing in this city and around the world.

Our church community at our recent church camp

Our Anglican heritage is a significant part of what shapes our life and ministry. We start our week in worship together on Sunday mornings, where we gather together to hear from God’s word, respond to His Spirit in praise, worship, and love, and support each other in prayer and acts of service.  From there we gather together in small groups in homes around the city across the week. Our ministry to workers includes a mid-week church service for those who cannot meet on Sunday mornings. Our ministry to families includes a creche, young mum’s group, and a childrens church. Our ministry to youth and students includes small groups, youth groups and weekly young adults gathering on Sunday evenings. Our ministry to the area around the church building includes a short service on Sunday evenings that begins with a meal.

For people who are looking at recovering their Christian faith or for those who would like to find out more about Christianity, we run a four week course called the Good News Course that introduces the you to the person at the heart of Christianity – Jesus - and introduces you to some of the people who are part of St Matthews.
